I have hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. Read my trail journal here.
I have loved travelling since I was very young. I have visited 49 of the 50 states. I have a goal of eventually visiting all of the 380+ sites run by the National Park Service. As of spring 2005, I have been to 231 of them. Find more information at the National Park Service Site or check out my outdoor links. I have a trip page, recounting first my family's summer adventures.
In the summer of 2000 I travelled to Rocky Mountain, Grand Teton, Theodore Roosevelt, and Isle Royale National Parks. I backpacked and camped my way through the parks and across the country, and visited my brother Mike at Isle Royale. I took a similar trip in summer 2001, this time with Glacier National Park in Montana as the major goal. In the summer of 2002 I visited Alaska. My primary destinations were Glacier Bay, (where Mike was working) Denali, Kenai Fjiords, and Wrangell-St. Elias National Parks. In 2003, we went to Acadia National Park and Baxter State Park in Maine, and to Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario. In 2004, we camped along the Natchez Trace Parkway in the spring, and journeyed out to Colorado in the summer for Mike's wedding. In spring 2005 we camped in Alabama and Georgia for a week and then did 6 days of backpacking on the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail. Prior to 2000, I was occupied with other pursuits for much of the summer: from 91-93 and in 96 I worked at Camp Roger in Michigan; in 1994 I worked at the Calvin College Ecosystem Preserve; in 1995 I worked for a camp in Massachesetts, and from 97-99 I studied each summer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. While in New York I did quite a bit of hiking in the Adirondacks on the weekends.

I worked for 4 summers at Camp Roger, a wonderful haven in the woods near Rockford, Michigan. It is a Christian camp that attempts to cultivate an understanding of the Creation and appropriate interpersonal relationships. I worked in the kitchen one summer; as a counselor for two; and one summer as the naturalist. This is a picture of Pickeral Lake, near camp Roger. |
