   The Appalachian National Scenic Trail is a 2,174-mile footpath along the ridge crests and across the major valleys of the Appalachian Mountains from Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in northern Georgia.


North Country Trail | Official site

The North Country National Scenic Trail is a premier footpath that stretches for about 4,400 miles linking communities, forests, and prairies across seven northern states.  The Finger Lakes Trail in New York is a portion of the NCT, about 563 miles from the Catskills to the Alleghenies.


Pacific Crest Trail | Official site

   The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is the jewel in the crown of America’s scenic trails, spanning 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada through three western states. It reveals the beauty of the desert, unfolds the glaciated expanses of the Sierra Nevada, and provides commanding vistas of volcanic peaks and glaciers in the Cascade Range.  The 211 mile John Muir Trail mostly follows the same route as the PCT, between Yosemite and Mt. Whitney in California.


Continental Divide Trail

Pennsylvania long-distance trails Pennsylvania hosts hundreds of miles of long-distance trails, including parts of the Appalachian and North Country trails.  Other trails include the Susquehannock, Loyalsock, and Laurel Highlands.


Benton MacKaye Trail

 The Benton MacKaye Trail (BMT) is a footpath of nearly 300 miles (480 km) through the Appalachian mountains of the southeastern United States. It is designed for foot travel in the tradition of the Appalachian Trail (AT).  Running from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Davenport Gap on the northern edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the BMT passes through some of the most remote backcountry in Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina, including eight federally designated Wilderness and Wilderness Study Areas.  It is shown in red below; the AT is the dotted orange.


Bartram Trail | More  This trail follows the travels of early botanist/explorer William Bartram, in Georgia and North Carolina.


Mountains-to-the-Sea Trail The Mountains to Sea Trail (MST) of North Carolina is a 900+ mile trail consisting of footpaths, roads, and state bike routes.


Pinhoti Trail This trail in Alabama and Georgia is an unofficial southern extension of the Appalachian Trail. It includes 137 miles in Alabama.  Much of it lies within the Talladega National Forest.  The Georgia section includes another 100 miles.


International AT:  This trail is an extension of the AT north from Baxter State Park through northern Maine and into New Brunswick and Quebec.  It ends at the St. Lawrence River, more than 600 trail miles north of Mt. Katahdin.


Palmetto Trail  425 miles from the mountains to the sea in South Carolina


Superior Hiking Trail: 205 miles following the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota.


Colorado Trail:

 Stretching from Denver to Durango, The Colorado Trail fulfills the dreams one would expect of a high mountain educational and recreational hiking trail which connects 500 miles of Colorado's magnificent mountainsides. It is high and mighty and it is diverse, therefore demanding, because of its tremendous changes in elevation and the expanse of area it covers. It crosses eight mountain ranges, seven national forests, six wilderness areas and five river systems. The trail winds from wild, rugged terrain to serene and pristine settings. The Colorado Trail meanders through some of the most beautiful terrain in the state.


Long Trail:

   Built by the Green Mountain Club between 1910 and 1930, the Long Trail is the oldest long-distance trail in the United States. The Long Trail follows the main ridge of the Green Mountains from the Massachusetts-Vermont line to the Canadian border as it crosses Vermont's highest peaks. It was the inspiration for the Appalachian Trail, which coincides with it for one hundred miles in the southern third of the state.


Tuscarora Trail: a bypass of the mid-Atlantic portion of the AT, following ridges further west.  The trail runs from Shenandoah to near Harrisburg.  252 miles total.


Northville-Lake Placid Trail: runs 133 miles through the Adirondacks in New York.  More here and here.
